Born 1946, Budapest, Hungary

Marte studied at the Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland and graduated with honours in 1968.
She was initially influenced by the work of Romanian émigré and perfectionist, Barancusi, British abstract sculptor Barbara Hepworth and other Abstract sculptor.
As she matured she formulated her own issues and philosophies around nature, esoteric symbolism and Buddhism. In all her work she strives to create a healing quality.
She feels that sculpture functions well in an outdoor setting, especially her own work which is inspired by universal issues related to nature/human conditions.
She bases her sculptural language on natural forms; shells eggs seed pods bones and fern fronds. Her works vary considerably in size, having created architectural sculpture, sculpture for city squares, wall reliefs and free-standing objects that range from person size to hand size.
She works predominantly in metals including steel, aluminum and bronze, both constructed and cast. She has also explored synthetic resin-marble casting and various other permanent materials when she needed specific media to express a particular concept.
