Ruby Huston

Ruby lives and works in Auckland.

She is a self taught artist and has been working professionally since 1975.

Exhibiting extensively throughout her career, her work is included in many public and private collections both here and overseas.

Ruby demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and craftsmanship in her works. Her subject matter ranges from exotic plant forms, flowers and fruits through to surreal landscapes containing strange figures, nudes and floating castles.

The growth and sexuality expressed in the plant forms has an all pervasive sense of life, communicated through the rich dense colour and vibrant atmosphere, an assertion that the act of painting connects the artist to a living breathing nature.

Drawing is an integral part of her art and in the sense of a true crafts person is fundamental to painting. Here paintings like her drawings are meticulous; using only the highest quality materials combined with Ruby’s attention to detail creates visually stunning works of art.

Represented; Hawke’s Bay Cultural Trust; Dowse Art Museum, Lower Hutt; Waikato University Art Group; James Wallace Charitable Art Group Collection; Orthodox Academy, Crete; Whangarei Art Gallery.
